Android Nougat
Android "Nougat" is the seventh major version and the 14th major changes in the Android operating system. This version is codenamed as Android N during development. Its first alpha test version was released on March 9, 2016, and officially released on August 22, 2016. The LG V20 was the first device released with Nougat.
Android Nougat introduces notable changes to the development platform and its operating system. It displays the multiple apps on-screen at once in a split-screen view. It also supports the inline replies for the notifications and expanded the "Doze" power-saving mode.
History of Android Nougat
Initially, the Android Nougat was codenamed as "New York Cheesecake". Google released the first alpha version of Android "N" on March 9, 2016. The developer preview builds were compatible with only current Google Nexus devices such as 5X, 6P, 6, 9, Pixel C, and Nexus Player.
Android "N" Beta preview 2 was released on April 13, 2016. The Beta Preview 3, was released on May 18, 2016, it introduces a new virtual reality platform called Daydream. On June 15, 2016, the Beta Preview 4 was released, and Google announced the name of N's version termed as "Nougat". The Nougat would be version 7.0 of Android.
The Beta Preview 5 was released on July 18, 2016. Android 7.0 was officially released on August 22, 2016, with Nexus 6, 5X, 6P, 9, Nexus Player, Pixel C are the first devices of Android Nougat.
Feature of Android Nougat
There are several new features that are added to the Android Nougat. Some of them are:
- Split-screen Chrome
- Clear all apps in multitasking
- Third-party quick setting
- App install source
- Quick app switching
- Data saver
Split-screen Chrome
Android 7.0 provides a facility to split the screen into two tabs. The Chrome browser facilitates you to run two different tabs on the screen at once. To run the two different webpages in the split-screen, open Chrome, and make sure you will get at list two tabs open. To launch the split-screen mode, you need to long-press your Android overview button.
Clear all apps in multitasking
Sometimes you need to start from beginning in your overview screen; you will require to close all those open apps. Android 7.0 has a "clear all" option for the overview list on all devices.
Third-party quick setting
All phones and tablets which are running Android 7.0 include a customize quick setting panel. You can also use a third-party setting on any device. To find the quick setting panel, if any, tap the edit button (looks like a pencil).
App install source
Google is gradually reading the information available in your app setting interface. Nougat added a feature that you can see where an app came from: Google Play or a side loaded APK.
To find this information, go to your system setting and select "Apps". Pick any app from the list and scroll down of info screen. It will display either "App installed from Google Play Store" or "App install from Package installer".
Quick app switching
Android 7.0 offers a new, faster way to flip between the apps. If you want to go back to the last app you open, you do not require tapping on the card in the overview screen. Just double-click on the overview button, and you will switch to the last app. Do the same, and you will return to the app you just left.
Data saver
Most of us use the mobile data plans; Android 7.0 added a new feature that helps you to stay under the plan. Its name is Data Saver available in all Nougat phones under the "Data Usage" setting menu. It prevents the app from using the mobile data in the background. Just turn it on, and the only actively app will use mobile data.
